Online Drum Tracks From eDrumSessions Gets Shout-Out From Aquarian Drumheads

On September 8, 2011 · 0 Comments

Drumhead manufacturer Aquarian Drumheads has put out a news clip regarding session drummer Shay Godwin’s online drum tracks site eDrumSessions.  The site has been mentioned in the new book “Shortcuts To Songwriting For Film And TV” by Robin Frederick.

Author Frederick has had quite a career.  She has written hundreds of songs that have been placed in television shows and ads, was Director of A&R for Rhino Records, and is currently Director of A&R for TAXI music.  In the book, Frederick recommends online drum tracks from eDrumSessions as a way to increase odds of getting music placed on television and film.

Online Drum Tracks: Yamaha Recording Customs And Why Old Wood Is Better

On August 31, 2011 · 0 Comments

Below I have linked to an article on Yamaha Recording Customs, which I (Shay Godwin, eDrumSessions founder) sometimes use for online drum tracks at eDrumSessions.com. It is an interview with drummer Sean McNally of The Villains on what he loves about his Recording Customs.

I love my set of these go-to studio drums. They are warm, punchy, and huge. I don’t use them for everything by any means — but I could easily! Recording Customs are very versatile and have a wide tuning range, though they seem to love being tuned on the lower side. That works fine for me!

McNally also discusses old wood vs. new wood, a subject dear to my heart.  I do not buy new kits, because the wood being used these days in drums comes from tree farms.  The trees from these farms grow really fast due to growth hormones, but don’t have the right kind of density for drums in my opinion and others. Plus, the older wood gets, the better is sounds.

Go ahead and read more about Yamaha Recording Customs if you would like to know more about a drum kit that gets a lot of use at eDrumSessions.

Online Drum Tracks: Yamaha Recording Customs, Part Of eDrumSessions Arsenal, Reviewed

On August 31, 2011 · 0 Comments

Here is a short review of Yamaha Recording Customs.  I use them here at eDrumSessions.com for online drum tracks.  These drums are amazing, and are said to be the most recorded drums in history.  I doubt that is the case, I imagine Ludwigs actually hold that title if it can be calculated.  Nevertheless, Yamaha Recording Customs are an integral part of my arsenal of drums that I use for online drum tracks.

As you may have gathered from the name, these drums are made for the studio.  The birch shells are finely crafted, and birch creates a quick, punchy, warm tone that is great for the studio.  I don’t use them for everything of course.  But I could!

eDrumSessions.com In “Shortcuts To Songwriting For Film & TV”

On August 26, 2011 · 0 Comments

eDrumSessions.com has been recommended in a recently-released book, “Shortcuts to Songwriting for Film & TV: 114 Tips for Writing, Recording, & Pitching in Today’s Hottest Market”.

The author, Robin Frederick, released her new book in the wake of her previous bestseller, “Shorcuts to Hit Songwriting: 126 Proven Techniques”.  Frederick has established herself as a top-shelf songwriting tutor.

Frederick mentions eDrumSessions in a section discussing online session drummers.  Here is an excerpt:

“It takes multiple mics, cables, inputs, and a room with good acoustics to handle a full drum kit.  It also requires a great kit, an excellent drummer, and the know-how involved in mic placement and recording.  Consider hiring one of the excellent session drummers who offer to record to your track in their own studio.”

"I
tried some other online drummers, you are by far the best.
"

Luke, Germany

"Your
process is great. The three takes is a perfect way to make
sure it works. Your tracks sound great. I was very happy
with the process.
You and Thai Long were awesome. Your professionalism and enthusiasm,
not to mention skill at your craft made this perfect.
"

Craig Campbell, Detroit, USA

"I
was totally blown away by the quality of the recording. By
comparison with other drum recordings I have heard (some
of them by other online drum recording services), your unprocessed
tracks are close to the processed tracks I have heard!
Your drumming during the chorus clearly sets it aside in terms
of energy from the verse parts, something that I find important.
Your playing supports the song and even inspires me with ideas
to improve it. Upright Bass, anyone?
"

Henrique Pataca, Portugal

"Shay,
just a quick email to let you know that I’m very happy with
the drums tracks! They’re well recorded and the performances
are great! A pleasure to mix! More to come for you soon.
"

Gyom, Alexandria, Virginia, USA

"Nice
fills and some cool grooves dude! Exactly what I was looking
for!!! All three takes sound great. I think my favourite
is track 2 but I might incorporate some bits of the other
takes into it as well.
"

Ramon McDrury, Sydney, Australia

"Hi
Shay, the takes are perfect, exactly what I was after and
played with real passion, thanks so much!
"

Owen Duff, London, UK

"I
can’t decide which version I like best, all three are great.
I think take 3 is again most powerful, straight but still
sophisticated, which I like cause I really want powerful,
driving bass and drums carrying the song but played intelligent.
"

Luke, Germany

"Shay!
You nailed it! Great work. You were right. I have ‘inevitable
glee’. You played exactly what I imagined! I’m sure putting
together a mix with your drums will be easy, but you make
it hard to decide which takes I want to use…

I just wanted to thank you both for spending the extra time to
nail down these tracks. You really nailed these tracks and inspire
me with your playing. I’m really honored to have you guys work
on this stuff and grateful.
"

Timothy Gillespie, New Jersey, USA
